Ali Sekou, Candidate for Ward 8 City Councilor
It has been one of the greatest honors of my life to serve as the Councilor for Ward 8 since 2023. I also serve as the Manager of Community Outreach and Engagement at New Hampshire Housing.
Originally from a small rural village in Niger, West Africa, my upbringing instilled in me a deep belief in the power of community—where success is built through collective effort and shared responsibility. I’m a husband, a father of three, and a proud resident of Concord.
I’m deeply passionate about affordable housing as a foundation for healthy, thriving, and equitable communities. I view it as a key social determinant of health, a driver of economic growth, and a force for diversity and inclusion.
With extensive experience in community engagement, civic leadership, and strategic collaboration, I’m committed to building inclusive and connected communities. Over the past two years, I’ve proudly served Ward 8 and the City of Concord, and I’m now running for re-election to continue this important work—addressing key issues such as housing and economic development, public safety, and fiscal responsibility.
Among my local initiatives are securing safety improvements at Keach Park, advancing road and infrastructure projects through the Capital Improvement Plan, and supporting efforts to strengthen Concord’s neighborhoods.
I’m also proud to serve on several boards and community organizations, including the New Hampshire Community Loan Fund, the NHTI Advisory Board, the Islamic Society of Greater Concord, the Organization for Refugee and Immigrant Success (ORIS), the World Affairs Council of New Hampshire, and Rain for the Sahel and Sahara.
My leadership has been recognized through numerous honors, including the 40 Under 40 Award, inclusion in the 2025 New Hampshire 200 Most Influential Business Leaders, and recognition as a 2025 Marquis Who’s Who Honored Listee. I’m also a graduate of Leadership New Hampshire, Leadership Greater Concord, and the U.S. Global Leaders Coalition (USGLC).
Before immigrating to the United States in 2012, I worked with the U.S. Embassy in Niamey, Niger, and managed the Bitinkodji tourist site. Fluent in four languages, I also started a French Club at the Concord Public Library. I bring a global perspective to leadership and community building—and remain deeply committed to creating opportunities and connections that strengthen our shared future.

"The Concord community has played a huge role in making me who I am today. Community members have trusted me, invested in me, guided, mentored and inspired me. They gave me the opportunity to learn and grow. Now, it is my turn to give back. I am a big believer that giving is very fulfilling and rewarding. My philosophy is that we all have something to give and some responsibility to make our communities a better place to live and work, to be welcoming, tolerant and cultivating love and acceptance. It is my humble honor to serve as City Councilor for Ward 8 and as Mayor Pro Tem for the city of Concord.
I am committed to bringing effective leadership to City Council, ensuring fiscal responsibility and a diverse and welcoming environment for all residents while driving policy to address the housing crisis, public safety and homelessness."
